Matchup Insight Red Sox vs Mariners Game 1

The Boston Red Sox just completed a series victory against Toronto that catapulted them into 4th place in the super competitive AL East.

Now they have a golden opportunity to try and create some distance between them and the Jays with a visit to the Mariners.

Boston

The Sox have been really bringing the lumber lately having scored 5 or more runs in their last 5 games.

There has certainly been no funk induced by the deal of Kevin Youkilis to the other Sox.

This is only starter Franklin Morales’ third start of the year. Boston like so many other teams is having trouble keeping their pitchers healthy and the former Rockie is making his first starts since 2009.

So far the results have been good with the Sox taking both games behind solid efforts.

The problem with Morales though is that he is just getting stretched out and doesn’t go very deep into game. Can the Mariners really exploit that?

Seattle

Seattle is struggling through another challenging season, most recently dropping 2 of 3 to Oakland. It is no secret why – the team scored just 4 runs over the 3 game set as its lineup is full of under and never achievers.

Boston is coming to town and looking to make an example of the M’s but with Felix Hernandez on the hill they have a chance to tilt things in their favour in the opener.

That is if the King can start living up to expectations. He has been inconsistent this year but his last two starts have been great with just 2ER and 17Ks over 14 innings.

He has been good against Boston in the past with a 5-2 record which is pretty impressive given the disparity between these two teams since he joined the Majors.

I am looking for another quality outing and a victory Thursday night.

O/U Pick: Under
Score Prediction: Seattle 4 – Boston 1
